The Patrol Company was an original Company formed within the Department when the ‘Central Islip Hook & Ladder & Chemical Engine Company 1’ was disbanded and reorganized as the ‘Central Islip Fire Department’ on May 6, 1929. The number of members assigned to the original Patrol Company is unknown. Membership now consists of 25 members, not including Senior Active members with 20 or more years of service. Unlike the other Companies who were led by their Foreman and Assistant Foreman, the Patrol Company elected a Chief and an Assistant Chief. These titles apparently did not remain this way for very long and the Officers of the Patrol Company were then referred to as Foreman and Assistant Foreman as did the other original Companies. The title of Foreman and Assistant Foreman was changed to that of Captain and Lieutenants for all Companies as of the December 4, 1933 Department Meeting. The Company changed its’ name in 1950 to Fire Police Company 1 and then again in 1979 to Fire Emergency Service Company 1. The Patrol Company / Fire Police Company 1 / Fire Emergency Service Co. 1 has been assigned the following apparatus a 1921 Ford ‘Runabout’, a 1933 Chevrolet Patrol Truck chassis purchased for $468.00 the body work was completed for $200.00. A 1947 Dodge Patrol Truck, a 1968 Maxim Rescue Truck and a 1985 ‘Emergency One’ (Ford Cab) Heavy Rescue. The apparatus currently assigned to the Fire Emergency Service Company 1 is a 2000 Pierce Quantum Heavy Rescue Truck. The original Patrol Company was assigned to the Truck House on East Suffolk Avenue. With the completion of the new Fire House in 1937, the Company was moved to this location, and finally was assigned to the new Headquarters building in 1991. |
